Cradle to Cradle Certified

Cradle to Cradle is a vision for a world in which consumption and production have a positive impact on the economy, the environment and on people. Where we can benefit our planet without cutting down on consumption and welfare.

In a Cradle to Cradle world we design products and structures in society so that all materials are healthy for their surroundings and can be included in a repeated cycle. Waste will no longer exist, and everything will either be reused as it is, or will become a resource for something completely new in healthy biological and technical cycles.

The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard has been developed on the basis of the Cradle to Cradle concept. The standard is administrated by the independent non-profit organisation, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Products are assessed by a qualified independent assessment body accredited by the Institute, which verifies the assessment and issues the certificate.

Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM requires continual improvement in products and processes. We are committed to go further all the time – and take the right steps. It is a journey on which we strive towards ambitions defined in five categories:

Material health

  • 98% of all substances used in our carpets are mapped and assessed
  • Our carpets are proven free of banned substances: All suppliers and sub-suppliers signed the “Banned Lists of Substances” from Cradle to Cradle
  • No use of fire retardants (wool is naturally flame resistant)
  • For Colortec ORIGIN: No use of dyestuff
  • Ongoing optimisation on material health
  • All carpets are VOC A+ / Indoor Air Comfort GOLD certified
  • Policy and action plan to ensure animal welfare

Certification level: Bronze and Silver

Product circularity

  • Wool is a natural and rapidly renewable resource, making out 80% of our pile material
  • Our carpets are rated as recyclable (based on the material health)
  • Our felt backing is made of recycled PET-bottles
  • Packing material: our carpet tubes are made from recycled plastic lids and our wrapping is made of recyclable plastic

Certification level: Gold

Clean air and climate protection

  • 100% wind energy in the internal production process of Colortec carpets. The use of renewable energy in the production process of our carpets goes beyond our internal processes, as all yarns are equally produced using renewable energy
  • 100% compensation for remaining CO2-emissions through Offset evidence, UN Certified Emission Reductions (CERs)
  • Constant actions taken to reduce our CO2-emissions

Certification level: Gold

Water and soil stewardship

  • As we do not generate any wastewater in our internal production processes, we take responsibility for our supplier’s water management
  • Optimisation of product-related chemistry will also positively impact the quality of process wastewater

Certification level: Silver

Social fairness

  • Production in Denmark with high standards for good working conditions
  • Committed to include young people with a former criminal record and refugees in our work force
  • B Corp self-evaluation carried out
  • Supply Chain Code of Conduct implemented and signed by all Tier 1 suppliers
