CARPET ART BY MISCHA KUBALL

Art All Around Us – “Socle du Monde Biennale 2017”

At Dansk Wilton we have always been engaged in art and design. Our factory breathes in an area in which art, design and architecture play an important role.

We could not resist the chance to participate actively in the art exhibition “Socle du Monde Biennale 2017” as a part of AARHUS 2017 – EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE”.

The German artist Mischa Kuball (b. 1959 in Germany) contributes to Socle du Monde with his work “Translocating ELEVHØJHUS, 2017”:

As we step through the main entrance of Herning Højskole, we find a huge carpet on the floor before us. It is not usually here. The hard stone floor has been covered by a soft, black carpet. On the carpet we see indications of measurements and marks indicating the position of columns. This is a 1:1 version of the Højskole foyer: a floor plan transformed into a carpet.

Before being relocated to the former school building, the carpet was placed in the main square of Herning, allowing people to walk on it. For a while, the school building’s design conquered a public space. One space relocated and superimposed on another. A merging of public and private spaces.
